Kids and Playtime

Playtime is a crucial part of your child’s emotional, social, and physical development. But it is about much more than having fun.

This and many other research studies since, have found that by having children with Autism play in small integrated groups with typical developing peers promotes many important areas of their cognitive development. These studies demonstrate that this kind of play (a) decreases solo-play and increases  social forms of play, and (b) decreases exploratory object play and increases more appropriate object play, and (c) has the potential to develop make-believe play in the Autistic child.

Additionally these findings were not only seen demonstrated during play groups, but (d) also observed in other settings, and (e) were accompanied by expressive language gains.
